Do you need a new air conditioner?

Spring is in the air and it’s not going to be long before we are switching on our air conditioners again. For some of us, that means feeling a little anxious. You might be wondering how much longer your air conditioner is going to last. Do you need a new air conditioner? It’s a question worth thinking about because it’s going to be much easier to get one before summer hits than after.

How to Know if You Need a New Air Conditioner

There are a few signs that you can look out for to tell you if you need a new A/C:

1. Your air conditioner is more than 10 years old.

Most air conditioners only last 15 years. That can seem like a long time when you first get the air conditioner – but the years go by quickly sometimes. If your air conditioner is over 10 years old, it is definitely time to start thinking about a replacement.

2. The air conditioner has not been properly maintained.

We offer a tune-up service for our clients in Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas because it’s the best way to maintain an A/C. If you don’t service the unit periodically, the lifespan goes down. That means that if you have not had a service technician maintain the A/C at least every year or two, it’s more likely to break down.

3. You have noticed that the unit is not keeping you as cool as it once did.

If the A/C is not working as it should, the first thing to do is call in a technician. We can look it over and tell you if it’s an easy fix or something more difficult. Sometimes it’s nothing more than replacing the air filter. However, if the unit just doesn’t keep you cool like you need it to, it is probably time for a replacement.

4. You have had to repair the unit multiple times in the past year.

If you have had to repair the air conditioner multiple times in the past few years, it is probably wearing out. There comes a point where it’s more economical to get a new unit than to keep making repairs.

5. You want more comfort and energy efficiency.

New air conditioners are quite a bit better than older ones. You might be ready for a better experience overall, in which case it makes sense to get a new unit.
